Professor Jane Davies is a Professor in Paediatric Respirology & Experimental Medicine at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London. She is also an Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust. Her affiliations include the Centre for Advanced Therapeutics, Centre for Paediatrics and Child Health, Fungal Science Network, Microbiome Network, and Respiratory Infections European CF Society Clinical Trials Network.
She graduated with an MB ChB from the University of Dundee Medical School in 1987 and completed clinical training in Paediatrics in London. Her career includes roles as Senior Lecturer (pre-1999), Reader (2009–2013), and Professor (2013–present) at Imperial College. She leads translational research in cystic fibrosis (CF), focusing on gene therapy, host-pathogen interactions, and clinical trial design. She is clinical lead of the UK CF Gene Therapy Consortium and directs the Core Lung Clearance Index facility for the European CF Society Clinical Trials Network.
Her research spans CF disease pathogenesis, including bronchoscopic studies of inflammatory responses and collaborations on non-invasive measurements like exhaled breath analysis. She co-edited three textbooks and contributes to global initiatives like the Medicines for Children Research Network. Her work emphasizes improving outcomes for CF patients through innovative therapies and diagnostic tools, including nasal potential difference testing for atypical CF diagnoses.
Key collaborations include projects with Professors Eric Alton and Andrew Bush, and leadership in trials evaluating CFTR modulators and antibiotic synergies. She also advocates for standardized outcome measures and patient-centered care, particularly regarding reproductive health and maternal CF management.
