Eric Alton is a Professor of Gene Therapy and Respiratory Medicine at the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London, and an Honorary Consultant Physician at Royal Brompton Hospital. He holds a Chair in Gene Therapy and coordinates the UK CF Gene Therapy Consortium, involving Edinburgh, Oxford, and Imperial College researchers. His work focuses on cystic fibrosis (CF) and angiogenesis, with three clinical trials and pioneering lentiviral vector-based therapies.
- Education: Jesus College, Cambridge; Westminster Medical School
- Research Interests: Gene therapy, CFTR-related disorders, respiratory medicine, and translational research
His affiliations include the Centre for Advanced Therapeutics and the Institute for Molecular Science and Engineering. He has led trials like Lenticlair, aiming to correct CFTR gene defects through inhaled vectors. Awards include Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci).
Key projects include the CLIMB-CF study on home monitoring for young CF patients and the development of F/HN-pseudotyped lentiviral vectors for clinical use. His research spans protein secretion optimization, bacteriophage therapy, and biomarker discovery for CF.
