Helen Ogden is an Associate Professor in Statistics and Director of EDI at the University of Southampton's School of Mathematical Sciences. She serves as Deputy Director of the Southampton Statistical Sciences Research Institute (S3RI) and is affiliated with the Institute for Life Sciences. Her expertise includes statistical modelling, theory, and computation, with a focus on flexible regression models, mixed-effects models, and likelihood approximation methods.
Education: PhD in Statistics (University of Warwick, 2013), MPhil in Statistical Sciences (University of Cambridge, 2010), BA in Mathematics (University of Cambridge, 2009).
Research Interests: Flexible regression models, longitudinal and clustered data analysis, count data modelling, and statistical inference with intractable likelihood functions.
Teaching: Module lead for MATH1024 (Introduction to Probability and Statistics), MATH6028 (Statistical Seminar Series II), and MATH6031 (Statistics Project).
Current Projects: Alan Turing Institute-funded research on flation models and collaborations in biomedical data analysis.
Supervision: Advises PhD student Ysanne Pritchard in Mathematical Sciences.
Career Highlights: Transitioned from Research Fellow (2013–2016) to Lecturer (2016–2024) before becoming Associate Professor at Southampton.
