Professor Dave Woods is a Professor of Statistics at the University of Southampton. His research focuses on statistical design and analysis of experiments, Bayesian statistics, and statistical computing. He has held a prestigious EPSRC Fellowship (2012-2017) and is currently a Turing Fellow. He has collaborated with industry partners like GlaxoSmithKline and Dstl, and serves as an Associate Editor for journals such as Technometrics and Statistics and Computing. His academic career includes roles as Lecturer (2004-2011) and Reader (2011-2013) before becoming a Professor. He is actively involved in teaching design of experiments at the Academy for PhD Training in Statistics (APTS).
Education: PhD in Statistics from the University of Southampton.
Research Interests: Development of experimental design methodologies for nonlinear models, efficient designs under model uncertainty, and applications in engineering, pharmaceuticals, and aeronautics. His work bridges statistical theory and computational tools to solve real-world problems.
Awards: 2019 Fellow of the American Statistical Association, EPSRC Fellowship, Turing Fellowship.
Grants & Projects: Active projects include Digital-chemical-robotics for translation of code to molecules (EPSRC) and Certification for Design - Reshaping the Testing Pyramid (EPSRC). Completed projects include statistical design for complex models (EPSRC) and Bayesian learning with complex computer models (Royal Society).
Labs & Teams: Member of the Statistical Sciences Research Institute (S3RI), collaborating on interdisciplinary research initiatives.
