Helen Allan is Professor of Nursing in the Department of Adult, Child & Midwifery at Middlesex University. She holds a PhD in Nursing, BSc Sociology from LSE, and PGDE/RNT. Her research examines social processes in nursing practice, with focus areas in infertility, racism in nursing, and midwifery.
Allan's current research includes studies of COVID-19 vaccination implementation, transitions to parenthood after IVF, and racism in nursing. She received the Fellowship of the Royal College of Nursing (FRCN) in 2023 for lifetime contributions to understanding racism and fertility nursing. Her methodological expertise includes qualitative approaches and action research.
Recent projects include evaluations of nursing leadership programs and studies of long-term condition management. Allan maintains clinical practice as a registered nurse and served as a COVID-19 vaccinator. She chairs the UCH London Nurses' Charity and contributes to curriculum development in nursing and midwifery.
