Georgia Allan is a Lecturer in Midwifery at the School of Health & Society, University of Salford, serving as Year One Lead and Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Lead. She focuses on evidence-based, culturally safe maternity care education and clinical excellence for future midwives.
Her research centers on cultural safety, racism in maternity care, and decolonising the midwifery curriculum, with emphasis on Black, Brown, and marginalized ethnicity birthing experiences. She investigates colonialism's historical impact on healthcare disparities and advocates for inclusive midwifery practices through curriculum reform and anti-racist frameworks.
Recent publications analyze decolonising interventions in midwifery education, revealing Eurocentric models' role in systemic health inequalities. Her work trends toward critical pedagogy, cultural safety integration, and dismantling structural racism to improve maternity outcomes for marginalized groups.
Allan actively contributes to national equity initiatives as a member of the Royal College of Midwives' Decolonising Midwifery Taskforce and the Greater Manchester Local Maternity and Neonatal System Equity and Equality Taskforce Working Group.
