Heidi Kurvinen is a feminist media historian specializing in gender and power dynamics within journalism. Currently affiliated with the University of Turku, she holds a PhD and has been awarded the Title of Docent. Her career includes postdoctoral research at the Turku Institute for Advanced Studies (2019–2021) and a visiting scholar position at the University of Stockholm (2015–2018). She also serves as a sub-editor for the peer-reviewed journal Historiallinen Aikakauskirja since 2014.
Education: Heidi earned her PhD in History from the University of Oulu. Her research background integrates journalism practice and academic inquiry.
Research Interests: Her work bridges history with media studies, gender studies, and work studies, focusing on transnational feminist movements and media representation in Finland and Sweden. She employs interdisciplinary methods including oral histories, print media analysis, and archival research. Recent projects investigate how mainstream media negotiated feminist ideologies from the 1960s to 2007, emphasizing Cold War-era discourses and Nordic transnational influences.
