Reetta Eiranen is a Senior Research Fellow at Tampere University’s Faculty of Social Sciences, specializing in History, Philosophy, and Literary Studies. She is affiliated with the Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence in the History of Experience (HEX) and serves on the editorial board of Historiallinen Aikakauskirja and the board of Narrare: Centre for Interdisciplinary Narrative Studies. Her research focuses on nationalism, gender, emotions, and biographical studies in 19th-century Finland, examining how personal relationships and networks shaped nationalistic movements.
Dr. Eiranen earned her PhD from Tampere University in 2019 with a dissertation analyzing the Tengström family’s role in Finnish nationalism through their correspondence. She held postdoctoral positions at Tampere University’s HEX Centre and was a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin. Her work bridges history with narrative and emotional analysis, emphasizing interdisciplinary methodologies.
Her recent publications (2022–2025) explore collective experiences, gendered nationalism, and emotional dynamics in family and political networks. She co-edited special issues on ‘Collective Experiences and Emotions’ and ‘Narrative and Experience,’ advancing methodologies that connect individual and societal histories. Her research highlights the interplay between personal emotions and national projects in pre-modern and modern contexts.
Eiranen’s contributions extend to academic leadership, including editorial roles and project coordination at HEX. Her work has been funded by the Academy of Finland, and she actively promotes open-access publishing and interdisciplinary dialogue in historical studies.
