Heidi Henderson is Professor of Dance at Connecticut College, where she has taught since 2003. She is a distinguished artist, educator, and writer whose work has significantly impacted contemporary dance.
Her educational background includes a B.A. from Colby College and an M.F.A. from Smith College. She serves as the artistic director of elephant JANE dance and is a contributing editor for Contact Quarterly: a vehicle for moving ideas.
Professor Henderson specializes in Modern Technique, Composition, Improvisation, Anatomy, and Dance Writing. Her research interests span contemporary dance practices, choreographic processes, dance criticism, and the intersection of movement and writing. She has made significant contributions to dance scholarship through her book Growing Place and numerous editorial contributions.
Her artistic work has been performed internationally in London, Korea, New York City, at Jacob's Pillow, The Flynn Space in Vermont, and The Bates Dance Festival in Maine. She has danced with prominent choreographers including Bebe Miller, Nina Weiner, and Paula Josa-Jones.

Professor Henderson maintains an active teaching schedule both at Connecticut College and at the Bates Dance Festival. She has also taught at Dance New Amsterdam, DanceSpace Inc., NYU's Tisch Dance Summer Festival, and Moving Target Boston. Her professional experience extends to faculty positions at Amherst College, Colby College, Hampshire College, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and Roger Williams University.
