Lisa Race is a Professor of Dance at Connecticut College, joining the faculty in 2008. Previously, she performed with David Dorfman Dance (1989-2000), taught at Trinity College/Performing Arts at La Mama (1997-2005), and Wesleyan University (2005). Currently on sabbatical for Fall 2025, she maintains an active international career in choreography and dance education.

Research and Artistic Interests: Professor Race specializes in post-modern dance technique, improvisation, and choreographic composition. Her work critically examines the boundaries of contemporary dance through live performance and experimental dance film, emphasizing embodied research and collaborative creation. She explores cross-cultural dialogues through international performances and workshops spanning five continents.

- New York Dance and Performance Award (Bessie) for dancing with David Dorfman Dance (1995)
- Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism Grant supporting choreographic development (2009)
Mentorship and Collaborations: Race has significantly shaped emerging dance artists through choreographic mentorship, setting works on independent artists including Katie Stevenson, Adele Myers, Bronwen MacArthur, Karl Rogers, and Meghan Durham. Her extensive festival engagements include Bates Dance Festival, American Dance Festival, and Impulstanz (Vienna), with workshops conducted across 15+ countries. Major collaborations include duets with Ginger Gillespie, Tom Thayer, and David Dorfman, plus dance films created with Shawn Hove.
