Dr. Heidi Dawson-Hobbis is a Senior Lecturer in Biological Anthropology at the University of Winchester, part of the School of Humanities. She holds a PhD from the University of Bristol (2011) and has taught at institutions including Kingston University and the University of Bristol. Her research focuses on human osteology, paleopathology, and the archaeology of childhood, with a specialization in medieval and post-medieval burial practices. She has authored works on topics such as leprosy in medieval populations, childhood health, and osteoarchaeological analysis.
Dr. Dawson-Hobbis' recent research includes a 2024 study on medieval red squirrel leprosy transmission and investigations into 19th-century burial practices in Bristol. Her work combines bioarchaeology with historical records to explore health, status, and cultural practices. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Practitioner of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists.
Her publications span monographs, book chapters, and peer-reviewed articles, with contributions to journals like Current Biology and American Journal of Physical Anthropology. She oversees postgraduate research in osteology and funerary archaeology, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to understanding past human populations.
