Dr. Heather Bamford is an Associate Professor of Spanish Literature and Director of Spanish Literature at the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, George Washington University. She holds a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literatures from the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on medieval and early modern Iberian literature, examining intersections between religion, magic, law, and multiconfessional societies. She is the award-winning author of *Cultures of the Fragment: Uses of the Iberian Manuscript, 1100–1600* (2018), which redefined understanding of manuscript culture. Current projects include *Unprinted: Reading and Meaning in Early Modern Iberia* (under contract) and a study of the legal code *Las siete partidas* regarding slavery in Spain and the Americas.
Her scholarship bridges textual analysis with cultural history, addressing themes like manuscript materiality, digital humanities, and colonial legacies. She serves on the MLA Committee on Scholarly Editions and the journal *Scholarly Editing*'s Advisory Board. As a GW Humanities Center Fellow (2020-21) and Faculty Senator, she advocates for academic excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her work frequently explores how marginalized voices and religious practices are encoded in manuscripts, challenging traditional narratives of early modern Iberia.
