Professor Juan-Carlos Conde is an Honorary Faculty Research Fellow at the University of Oxford's Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages. Specializing in medieval Hispanic literature, his research focuses on textual criticism, the history of the Spanish language, and manuscript studies. He has authored numerous publications on figures like Pablo de Santa María and Fernando de Rojas, and edited critical editions of seminal works such as the Cantar de Mio Cid. His interdisciplinary work bridges medieval historiography with the material culture of books, including studies on translations of Boccaccio's Decameron into Castilian and the evolution of Spanish lexical history.
Teaching interests include medieval Spanish literature and the history of the Spanish language. His research emphasizes the intersection of textual analysis and cultural history, with contributions to understanding medieval translation practices, the Cantar de Mio Cid's symbolism, and the reception of classical texts in Iberian literature.
