Marina Brownlee is the Robert Schirmer Professor of Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Cultures and Comparative Literature at Princeton University, where she has been a faculty member since 2002. She serves as Chair of the Committee for Renaissance Studies and specializes in Medieval and Early Modern Iberian literature and theory.
- BA in Hispanic Studies from Smith College
- PhD from Princeton University in Romance Languages
Her research explores interdisciplinary themes such as gender representation, cultural translation, sensory experiences, and curiosity in the context of Early Modern Spain and broader Iberian studies. She has co-edited significant volumes examining cross-cultural interactions, including Renaissance Encounters: Greek East and Latin West (2013) with Dimitri Gondicas.
Professor Brownlee organizes annual workshops at Princeton, such as the 2019 focus on 'Space and Place in Medieval Iberia,' and contributes to editorial work in her field, including a special issue of Duke's Journal of Medieval and Early Modern Studies titled Intricate Alliances: Early Modern Spain and England.
