Dame Hazel Genn is a Professor of Socio-Legal Studies at University College London’s Faculty of Laws and currently serves as Pro-Provost Bicentennial in UCL’s President & Provost Office. She previously held leadership roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Laws (2008–2017) and Head of the Department of Law at Queen Mary, University of London (1985–1994). She is the founder and director of the UCL Centre for Access to Justice and co-founder of the UCL Judicial Institute.
Education: Doctor of Laws (LLD), University of London (1993).
Research focuses on socio-legal studies, legal institutions, civil justice systems, health services, public health, and sociology. She has contributed to judicial training, diversity initiatives, and public policy through roles such as Inaugural Commissioner of the Judicial Appointments Commission (2006), member of the Committee on Standards in Public Life (2003–2007), and Chair of the ESRC Research Grants Board (2001–2009).
