Sophia Schroeder is a Researcher affiliated with UCL's Faculty of Laws and Judicial Institute since 2020. Her work explores domestic courts' roles in consociational power-sharing systems, with fieldwork in Northern Ireland and Lebanon. She holds a PhD in Law, MA in Conflict Resolution (King’s College London), LLM (King’s College London), and a Maîtrise en Droit from Panthéon-Assas University. Currently, she is a Visiting Doctoral Student at Queen’s University Belfast (School of Law) and will join the Orient-Institut Beirut as a Doctoral Fellow in 2022.
Her research focuses on judicial responses to consociational governance, supported by grants from the ESRC, Funds for Women Graduates, and Modern Law Review. Teaching includes courses on law and homelessness, interdisciplinary modules on consociationalism, and mentoring LLB students. She has also coached teams in international law competitions (2018-2021).
Professional experience includes German federal civil service, internships with the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, German-Arab Chamber of Commerce, and European Parliament. She volunteers with Refugee Legal Support and Sama Women's Health NGO on clinical trial compensation mechanisms.
