His recent publications explore trans worker safety in PK-12 schools, methodological innovations rooted in transgender experiences, and the reimagining of curriculum to challenge binary norms.
Key trends in Dr. Keenan’s scholarship include:
- Centering trans and queer epistemologies in educational research
- Critiquing standardized testing and colonial narratives in elementary education
- Developing anti-racist, decolonial approaches to teaching history
- Advocating for gender-neutral honorifics and inclusive language
Dr. Keenan’s awards include the Robert Quartermain Professorship of Gender and Sexuality Research in Education and a 2022 NAEd/Spencer Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship. He maintains active collaborations with trans educators and scholars, including co-authoring policy briefs and participating in national dialogues on transgender justice in schools.
