Hans Demeyer is an Associate Professor of Dutch & Comparative Literature at University College London (UCL), based in the SELCS (School of European Languages, Culture and Society) department. He currently serves as Programme Director for Dutch and co-editor-in-chief of Dutch Crossing: Journal of Low Countries Studies. His academic journey includes roles as Lecturer (2016–2023) and Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (from 2023).
Demeyer holds a Doctorat from Universiteit Gent (2016), and two Masters: from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (2010) and Universiteit Gent (2009). His research focuses on intersections of literature, affect, and society, with emphasis on feminist/queer theory, political philosophy, cultural studies, and European comparative literature.
His notable work includes the co-authored book Affectieve crisis, literair herstel (2021, with Sven Vitse), set for English translation in 2026. He is actively involved in scholarly activities: supervising research/taught course projects, grant assessment, journal reviewing, and media engagement on literary and cultural topics.
Demeyer advocates for Gender Equality (SDG 5) through his academic and outreach work. He remains available for conferences, media collaborations, and mentoring initiatives.
