James Agar Grants

James Agar Grants is a Senior Lecturer at University College London (UCL), affiliated with the SELCS and the Department of French. His research focuses on modern and contemporary fiction, cultural discourses of AIDS, Foucault's cultural theory, gender studies (especially gay/queer theory), comparative literature (French and Hispanic), and medical humanities. He has supervised numerous PhD candidates in queer studies and French literature.

James served as the SELCS Programme Tutor for interdepartmental ELCS modules and acted as Programme Director for the MA in Gender, Society and Representation (January–July 2018). His work bridges literary analysis with cultural and medical humanities, particularly exploring intersections between queer studies and French/Hispanic literature.
