Hank Bamberger is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of Akron, part of the School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration. He holds a BFA in Modern Dance from Marymount Manhattan College (2009), an MFA in Dance/Choreography from Sarah Lawrence College (2020), and is pursuing a PhD in queer choreographic practice at Coventry University's Centre for Dance Research (C-DaRE).
His research explores intersections of queer activism, killer heels practices, and embodied performance. Notable works include Illumiboy (2022) and Killer Heel Confessionals (2023), presented at international venues like the Université de Lille and Coventry University's Creative Cultures Symposium. Bamberger has been recognized as an Emerging Choreographer (2019) and has led initiatives such as SAILDANCE, fostering young female artists. His career includes roles with the Paul Taylor II Dance Company, West End Academy of Dance, and international collaborations with entities like the United Nations Peace Boat and Design Pavilion NYC.
As an educator, Bamberger emphasizes interdisciplinary inquiry, inclusivity, and resilience through movement arts, blending classical and experimental techniques. His creative practice spans performance art, body scenography, and activism, advocating for societal change through dance.
