Hailay Gesesew

Hailay Gesesew is a Senior Research Fellow (NHMRC Investigator Grant) at Torrens University Australia and Honorary Assistant Professor at Mekelle University, Ethiopia. He specializes in HIV care continuum, social determinants of health, and conflict medicine, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa. Current research includes HIV peer counselor impact in Tigray and health outcomes during conflict.

Research Interests: Combines quantitative (cross-sectional, cohort studies) and qualitative methods (in-depth interviews, consensus techniques) to address HIV/AIDS, conflict health, and alternative medicines. Uses R, SPSS, and NVivo. Recent work includes UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets in Ethiopia and mental health of Tigrayan diaspora in Australia.

Grants & Leadership: Chief Investigator for the 'Teach-Test-Link-Trace Model' project (2022–2025). Over 15 years of clinical, teaching, and research experience in Ethiopia and Australia. Leadership roles include managing health centers and district health offices in Ethiopia.

Labs/Teams: Research and Innovation Office at Torrens University’s PHEHF Centre. Collaborates internationally on conflict health, HIV/AIDS, and universal health coverage initiatives.
