Hadi Khalil

Hadi Khalil is a Part-Time Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences and a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Ottawa. He holds cross-appointments in the Faculty of Medicine and the Heart Institute. His roles include teaching undergraduate courses such as HSS3305[B] Pathophysiology of Health Problems and HSS3109A-Fall 2024 Research Approaches in Health Biosciences.

Education: PhD in Life Sciences (University of Lausanne, Switzerland, 2012), MSc in Biotechnology (Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania, Greece, 2007), and pre-doctoral training in biotechnology. He has held postdoctoral roles at institutions such as Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the CHUV in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Research Interests: Focused on molecular mechanisms of disease, regenerative medicine, cardiac fibrosis, and stem cell therapy. His work explores fibroblast dynamics in heart disease and muscular dystrophy, leveraging advanced molecular biology techniques and collaborative projects. Recent studies include identifying fibroblast differentiation markers and investigating TGF-β signaling pathways in fibrosis.

Professional Experience: Since 2020, he has led projects on cardiac regeneration at the University of Ottawa. His prior work includes studies on lncRNA roles in cardiac development and the role of oxidative stress in heart failure. He has extensive experience in grant writing and project leadership.

Labs/Teams: Works in Dr. Mona Nemer’s lab (University of Ottawa) and collaborates internationally. His research integrates experimental cardiology with molecular biology approaches.
