HANİFE ALİEFENDİOĞLU

Prof. Dr. Hanife Aliefendioğlu is a Professor and Chair in the Department of New Media and Journalism at the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). She holds a PhD in Anthropology from Hacettepe University (2000), an MA in Anthropology (1994), and a BA in Sociology (1987), all from Hacettepe University. Her expertise includes media anthropology, gender studies, cultural analysis, and media representation. She has supervised over 20 PhD and Master's theses on topics like media framing of conflicts, digital media's social impact, and gender representation in media.

Her research contributions include co-editing books such as Medya ve Temsil and Ailenin Karanlık Yüzü Ensest, and authoring chapters in international publications like The Gender and the Media Handbook and Alternative Media In Contemporary Turkey. She is an editor of the journal Kadın/Woman2000 and serves on the boards of the Center for Women Studies and Barış İçin İletişim ve Araştırma Merkezi.

Prof. Aliefendioğlu actively participates in initiatives like the KAY Project, promoting animal welfare on campus. Her ongoing research includes analyses of media portrayal of the Ukraine-Russia war and gender dynamics in global media. She also collaborates with international scholars on feminist media studies and digital culture.
