Günther Fink is the Eckenstein-Geigy Professor of Epidemiology and Household Economics at the University of Basel and Head of the Household Economics and Health System Research Unit at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) since 2017. His dual appointments reflect his interdisciplinary work bridging economics and public health, with offices at both the Swiss TPH in Allschwil and the University of Basel's Faculty of Business and Economics.
With an M.A. in Applied Economics from the University of Michigan and a PhD in economics from Bocconi University, Fink's research focuses on developing and evaluating innovative approaches to improving health and development in low-resource settings, with particular emphasis on measuring long-term economic benefits of health interventions during early childhood. His work spans multiple continents, examining socioeconomic determinants of health outcomes and evaluating interventions through rigorous economic analysis.
Fink's publication record demonstrates consistent productivity with numerous 2024-2025 articles spanning epidemiology, household economics, early childhood development, and global health systems. His research addresses pressing global health challenges including hypertension management, early childhood development, nutrition interventions, antimicrobial resistance, and health system financing in low- and middle-income countries.
