Jürg Utzinger

Jürg Utzinger serves as the Director of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) and Professor of Epidemiology at the University of Basel. With an MSc in environmental science and a PhD in epidemiology, he completed postdoctoral research at Princeton University focusing on demography and epidemiology. His leadership extends across multiple global health initiatives and research consortia.

Dr. Utzinger's research focuses on the epidemiology and integrated control of neglected tropical diseases, with particular emphasis on health impact assessments of large-scale projects in low- and middle-income countries. His work spans multiple continents with ongoing projects in China, Côte d'Ivoire, South Africa, and Tanzania. His research bridges the gap between scientific discovery and practical implementation in resource-limited settings.

His recent publications reveal a strong focus on disease control strategies, particularly for malaria, schistosomiasis, and noma, alongside research on HIV treatment adherence and metabolic health.
