Katharina Roser is a Lecturer and Senior Researcher at the University of Lucerne's Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine. She holds a Mathematics degree from the University of Basel and a PhD in Epidemiology from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), focusing on the HERMES project (2012–2015). Her research spans epidemiology of adolescent/young adult (AYA) cancers, mobile phone exposure health impacts, and healthcare utilization patterns in cancer survivors. She leads studies on AYA cancer epidemiology in Switzerland and socio-bureaucratic hardships faced by childhood cancer survivors and their families.
Her academic roles include teaching in the Bachelor of Health Sciences and the Joint Medical Master program with UZH. She has collaborated with institutions like the Cancer Registry of Central Switzerland and the Swiss National Science Foundation, investigating cancer epidemiology and early-career researcher funding mechanisms. Her work integrates quantitative epidemiological methods with behavioral theories to understand health outcomes and healthcare engagement.
Key research areas include:
- Cancer survivorship in AYA populations
- Radiofrequency electromagnetic field (RF-EMF) exposure effects
- Health behavior theories applied to follow-up care adherence
- Social and economic impacts of childhood cancers
Her publications (2015–2018) emphasize longitudinal cohort studies and systematic reviews, addressing topics like unemployment among cancer survivors, RF-EMF exposure measurement techniques, and mental health correlates of mobile phone use. She actively contributes to health policy discussions through her interdisciplinary research approach.
