Gwilym Owen is a Senior Lecturer in Property Law, Equity and Trusts at Bangor University's School of History, Law and Social Sciences. He has been a key contributor to legal education and research since joining the university in 2011, following a thirty-year career as a solicitor and solicitor advocate specializing in property litigation. He teaches Land Law and Equity and Trusts modules, often through the medium of both English and Welsh, and serves as the English and French double degree lead.

Gwilym Owen has supervised six postgraduate research students to completion and currently supervises one PhD student. His work has had societal impact, particularly in contributing to leasehold reform discussions via the Law Commission. He is an active member of the Society of Legal Scholars, Welsh Legal History Society, and European Society for Comparative Legal History.
He has been involved in organizing key academic events such as the Law School's annual Law Fair (2013–2019) and the 'Water in the Laws of Wales' conference. He also contributes to public engagement through media appearances on BBC Radio Cymru and presentations to organizations like the National Trust.
