Gustavo Mostoslavsky is a Professor at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, holding appointments in Virology, Immunology & Microbiology. He serves as Co-Director of the Center for Regenerative Medicine (CReM) and is a key member of the Evans Center for Interdisciplinary Biomedical Research. His research focuses on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and their application in modeling diseases such as colorectal cancer, hepatitis, and neurodegenerative disorders. He has pioneered methods for efficient iPSC generation using lentiviral vectors and developed organoid systems to study viral infections like Ebola and SARS-CoV-2.
Education: MD from the University of Tucumán (Argentina), PhD in Molecular Biology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel).
Research Interests: Dr. Mostoslavsky's lab explores stem cell differentiation pathways, including intestinal, hepatic, and immune cell lineages. They utilize 3D bioprinting to create functional mini-organs and study mechanisms of viral entry and replication in iPSC-derived tissues. Recent work includes modeling Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease using patient-derived neurons and investigating HIV-induced immune dysregulation in microglia.
Grants & Collaborations: Active NIH-funded projects include studying Ebola virus pathogenesis in intestinal organoids, developing iPSC-based therapies for venous ulcers, and analyzing synergistic mechanisms of opioid-HIV-induced inflammation in microglia. He collaborates with the Boston University National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL) on Ebola research.
Labs & Teams: Leads the Mostoslavsky Lab at Boston Medical Center, focusing on regenerative medicine, virology, and immune cell engineering. Key technologies include CRISPR editing, organoid culture, and high-resolution imaging of cellular processes.
