Florian Douam is an Assistant Professor at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, within the Department of Virology, Immunology & Microbiology. He leads the Douam Lab at the National Emerging Infectious Disease Laboratories (NEIDL), focusing on mechanisms governing immune outcomes in RNA virus infections. His research integrates humanized mouse models and organoids to study viral pathogenesis and immunity.
Education: PhD in Molecular Virology from École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France, and BS from Université François Rabelais, Tours, France. He completed postdoctoral training in the Ploss Lab at Princeton University.
Research interests include immunoregulatory mechanisms in respiratory infections, skin responses to arthropod-borne viruses, molecular drivers of viral immunopathologies, and broadly acting vaccines. He is a Principal Investigator on grants from NIH, Moderna, and others, focusing on vaccine development and viral disease mechanisms.
Key roles include Assistant Director of Graduate Studies for Virology, Immunology & Microbiology and mentoring graduate students. His lab develops innovative models to study viral transmission, immune responses, and vaccine strategies.
