Gundela Hachmann

Gundela Hachmann is an Associate Professor of German at Louisiana State University (LSU), specializing in German literature, poetics, and transmedial studies. She holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University (2008) and has received numerous grants and awards, including the Manship Summer Research Grant (2020, 2018, 2016, 2012) and the Gerd Bucerius Stipend (2019). Her research focuses on 19th-21st century German literature, transmedial relations, contemporary poetics, and literature’s intersection with science.

Research Interests:
Her work explores how literature engages with scientific concepts, visual media, and cultural memory. Key themes include authorial self-fashioning, political activism through autofiction, and the role of poetics in education. She has edited collections on poetics lectures and co-authored studies on contemporary German novels’ techno-imaginaries.
