Andrea E. Morris

Andrea E. Morris is a Professor of Spanish and serves as Director and Associate Chair of LSU's Hispanic Studies Department. She holds a Ph.D. from Washington University (2003). Her research focuses on 20th-21st century Hispanic Caribbean cultures, Afro-Hispanic literature, migration studies, and critical pedagogy in language education. Morris teaches advanced courses like 'Cultural Theory to Social Justice Pedagogy' and 'Afro-Latin American Cultures.'

Research Interests: Explores intersections between mobility, identity, and cultural production in the Hispanic Caribbean. Recent work examines Dominican and Cuban im/mobility through film and literature, emphasizing ethical dimensions of transnational encounters. Advocates for socially-conscious pedagogical approaches in language instruction.

Grants & Awards: Multiple LSU research grants (2011-2019), NEH stipend applicant (2014), and Manship Summer Research Awards (2011, 2013, 2017, 2019).

Service & Outreach: Served as Spanish Undergraduate Advisor (2009-2011, 2017-2018) and Graduate Studies Advisor (2013-2016). Engaged in community initiatives including LSU Museum of Art exhibitions, bilingual poetry workshops in Baton Rouge schools, and Prime Time Family Reading programs for ESL students.
