Gregory Alley serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Music Department at Hope College since 2023, concurrently holding an adjunct trumpet instructor position at Cornerstone University. Previously, he taught at Calvin University, Grand Valley State University, and Aquinas College.
His educational background includes a Master of Music in applied trumpet from Michigan State University (1983) and a Bachelor of Arts in applied trumpet from Cornerstone University (1981).
Professor Alley's expertise centers on trumpet performance and brass ensemble leadership, demonstrated through decades of professional engagement. His scholarly contributions include articles and photography in The Windplayer, The International Trumpet Guild Journal, and The ITEA Journal, reflecting his dual focus on performance practice and pedagogical innovation.
He maintains an active performance career as a member of the Holland Symphony Orchestra and freelance engagements, building on foundational experience with the US Army's West Point Band (1984-2007) where he founded the Regimental Brass Quintet and Titus Trumpet Ensemble.
Professor Alley has presented master classes internationally at institutions including Brigham Young University, Central Michigan University, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, University of Minnesota, Norwegian Academy of Music, St. Olaf College, and Interlochen Arts Academy, establishing him as a significant figure in brass pedagogy.
