Graeme Callister is Senior Lecturer in History and War Studies at York St John University's School of Humanities. His research specializes in conflict, combat, and civil-military relations during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars (1785-1815).
Research examines:
- Public opinion and policy interactions in wartime Britain, France and Netherlands
- Conscription systems and social impacts
- Diplomatic networks during peace negotiations
- National identity formation in military contexts
Publications consistently analyze societal dimensions of conflict, utilizing archival correspondence and regional case studies. His monograph 'War, Public Opinion and Policy' (2017) established methodologies for analyzing wartime public sentiment across multiple nations.
Callister received the Sir Michael Howard Prize (2022) from the British Commission for Military History. He is Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Royal Historical Society, currently co-editing the Battlefields Trust journal 'Battalia' and chairing the Yorkshire region historical preservation initiatives.
