Séverine Angers is a Researcher in the Department of History at the University of York, funded by the Wolfson Foundation. Her work examines British military families' experiences during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars (1793–1815), focusing on gendered relationships, emotional responses to warfare, and mourning practices. Her research employs archival correspondence, military memoirs, epitaphs, and material culture analysis to explore how families navigated separation, loss, and remembrance in the absence of soldiers' remains.
Key themes include sibling and maternal relationships among soldiers, the materiality of grief, and familial memorialization. She has presented at venues like the International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (Rome), Bielefeld University, and the National Army Museum (London). Forthcoming publications include a chapter on soldiers' wives in Quebec's British garrison (1763–1820) and a conference paper on Napoleonic mourning practices.
Awards: Wolfson Foundation Research Funding.
