Bryan Radley is a Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Literature and Deputy Head of Department at the University of York's Department of English and Related Literature. He holds a PhD from the University of York, following studies in English Literature and Philosophy at Trinity College Dublin. His research focuses on Irish literature, humour studies, and modern/contemporary fiction, with particular expertise in John Banville, Elizabeth Bowen, and other key Irish authors. Radley has held leadership roles including Programme Leader for the BA in English and History, Chair of Admissions Committee, and Modularisation Lead. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and recipient of the Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching Award.

Research interests span Irish diasporic literature, comedy's role in narrative forms, and modernist interwar writing. He leads projects with Cambridge University Press on John Banville and Elizabeth Bowen's comedy. Radley teaches modules like 'So Funny it Hurts: Irish Comic Fiction' and 'The Age of Extremes,' emphasizing 20th/21st-century writing. He has supervised eight PhD students and advised five more, with a focus on fostering creative-critical projects.
Publications include articles in Irish University Review and edited volumes, alongside curating exhibitions and organizing major conferences like IASIL 2015: Reconciliations. His teaching innovations include redesigning Stage 2 undergraduate programs and contributing to the York Pedagogy framework.
