Gitte Marcusson is a Professor of Flute at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London, appointed in 2016. A Danish-born musician, she has established herself as a prominent orchestral performer and educator. Her career includes extensive work with orchestras like the National Symphony Orchestra and BBC National Orchestra of Wales, alongside chamber music collaborations across Europe. She has performed at prestigious venues, including Buckingham Palace for Sir Yehudi Menuhin’s celebration.
- Education: Studied flute with Trevor Wye, Clare Southworth, Patricia Lynden, and Patricia Morris in Manchester and London.
Her teaching spans decades, including 16 years at Chethams School of Music and current roles at Vänersborg School of Music and her private studio in Sweden. She coaches globally, including at the RCM, Royal Northern College of Music, and Gothenburg Academy of Music. Notable initiatives include founding the Nordic Flute International Summer School and coaching the Swedish National Youth Orchestra.
Gitte’s recordings include Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos with Camerata Calluna for Naxos. She frequently broadcasts on radio and mentors emerging professionals through masterclasses and workshops.
