Sinéad Farrell is a Dublin-born flautist and piccolo player, currently serving as a lecturer in flute and piccolo at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) and St. Louis School of Music in Rathmines. Her roles include teaching, orchestral performance, solo recitals, and chamber music collaborations.
Education: She studied flute with Doris Keogh and William Dowdall, piccolo with Patricia Morris and Catriona Ryan, and piano with Hugh Tinney and Darina Gibson. She holds a licenciate diploma in piano and is a former degree student at RIAM.
Research & Performance: Farrell specializes in orchestral and chamber music, serving as principal piccolo/sub-principal flute with the National Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with ensembles like the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and English National Opera. As a soloist, she has performed concerti with the National Symphony Orchestra and others. She is a founding member of the Ficino Ensemble, touring Ireland, Europe, and North America.
Teaching & Outreach: Committed to pedagogy, she teaches at RIAM and St. Louis School, delivers piccolo masterclasses, and advocates for accessible piccolo education. Her work emphasizes making the instrument approachable for flute players.
