Prof. Dr. Gesa Stedman is a Professor of British Culture and Literature at the Centre for British Studies, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. She holds a doctorate (2000) and Habilitation (2005) from Humboldt-Universität. Her research focuses on discourses of emotions, early modern cultural exchange between England and France, British film history, contemporary UK literature, and British women writers in Berlin. She co-edited journals such as Hard Times and Journal for the Study of British Cultures, and founded the Berlin-Britain Research Network (2014).
- Education: Studied English, French, and Theatre/Film Studies at Freie Universität Berlin and University of Warwick (1989–1996).
- Administrative Roles: Director of the Centre for British Studies (2017–present), Spokesperson of the Berlin Graduate School of British Studies, and member of the Committee for a Family-Friendly University at HU Berlin.
- International Collaboration: Leads the Writing 1900 research network with Oxford scholars and oversees the Oxford-Berlin Partnership.
Her teaching spans contemporary British culture, crime novels, and interdisciplinary projects on nostalgia and class in literature. She co-runs the Literary Field Kaleidoscope, organizing public literary events. Key funding sources include DFG, the British Council, and the Gerda-Henkel-Stiftung.
