Margit Kern is a Professor of Art History at the University of Hamburg, holding a W3 Professorship since 2012. She previously served as a W2 Professor for History of Spanish and Latin American Art at Freie Universität Berlin (2011-2012) and as a W1 Professor at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin's Theological Faculty (2009-2011). Her academic journey includes a habilitation in 2010 at Freie Universität Berlin, focusing on concepts of sacrifice in New Spain and Europe during the early modern era. She founded the Arbeitsgruppe 'Spanische und iberoamerikanische Kunstgeschichte' in 2006 and earned her PhD in 1998 for a study on Reformation art, later honored with the Martin-Luther-Preis in 2000.
