Gerard Morris is a Professor of Music at the University of Puget Sound, serving as Director of Bands and Chair of Winds and Percussion since 2009. He was promoted to full professor in 2022 and received the President’s Excellence in Teaching Award in 2016. His expertise spans conducting, music education, and wind ensemble performance.

His research interests focus on wind ensemble literature, pedagogical techniques in conducting, and collaborative performance practices. Morris has led prestigious ensembles like the Tacoma Concert Band and collaborated with institutions globally, including the Midwest Clinic and CBDNA conferences. His conducting credits include appearances with the Southwest Washington Wind Symphony, University of Georgia JanFest, and international honor bands.
Award-winning contributions include co-producing composer Neil Thornock’s CD Between the Lines. Morris is a sought-after clinician, lecturing at venues such as the CBDNA National Conference and WMEA State Conference, and has served as artist-in-residence in locations ranging from Abu Dhabi to Vancouver.
He balances academic leadership with professional performance, having served as principal euphonium with the Boulder Brass and U.S. Marine Corps Band in Hawai’i. Morris currently teaches courses including Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Beginning Instrumental Conducting.
