William Kinne is an Associate Professor of Music and Director of Bands at the University of Southern Maine. He conducts the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and Portland Youth Wind Ensemble, while teaching undergraduate courses in conducting and music education. Previously, he served as Associate Director of Bands at Northern Arizona University, leading the Lumberjack Marching Band to perform for the Arizona Cardinals halftime show. He is a founding member of the Colorado New Music Ensemble and former Conductor of the Boulder Concert Band.

Research & Professional Activities: Dr. Kinne’s research focuses on music-technology intersections, Charles Ives’s compositions, and wind ensemble transcriptions (e.g., Shostakovich’s The Tale of the Silly Little Mouse). He is active as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator, collaborating with institutions across the U.S. His ensembles have earned superior ratings and acclaim for innovative cross-disciplinary performances.
