Geraldine A. Johnson is an Associate Professor of the History of Art at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Christ Church. She specializes in the history of sculpture from the late Medieval period to the present, Early Modern European art, and the historiography of Art History. Her research explores intersections between sculpture, photography, and gender studies, with a focus on Renaissance and Baroque Italy.
Johnson holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University (1994) and has authored/co-edited influential works such as *Renaissance Art: A Very Short Introduction* (2005) and *Picturing Women in Renaissance and Baroque Italy* (1997, prize-winning). She is currently completing a monograph on *Photography and Sculpture* and co-curating the exhibition *Sensory Worlds of the Global Renaissance* at the Ashmolean Museum (2027).
Her recent publications address photographic archives, the materiality of marble in Renaissance art, and multisensory engagement with devotional objects. Johnson supervises DPhil students in History of Art and Visual/Material Culture, teaching courses on European Art (1400-1900), feminist art historiography, and early modern cultural practices.
