Dr. Ben Thomas is an Associate Professor in the History of Renaissance Art at Trinity College Dublin's Department of History of Art and Architecture. His research focuses on the Italian Renaissance, with additional interests in seventeenth-century prints, modern and contemporary art, and the historiography of art. He co-curated the award-winning 2017 exhibition Raphael: The Drawings at the Ashmolean Museum, praised for its innovative presentation of graphic art. His publications include Edgar Wind and Modern Art (2020) and Multiple Histories: Episodes in the History of Printmaking (in progress). He collaborates with contemporary artists like Humphrey Ocean and teaches courses on Renaissance art and printmaking histories.
His research explores intersections between Renaissance art, historiography, and modern curatorial practices. Current projects include studies on Edgar Wind’s legacy and the relationship between art and science. Dr. Thomas’s work bridges historical scholarship with contemporary art practice, emphasizing interdisciplinary dialogue.
Teaching encompasses undergraduate modules on Renaissance art and printmaking, while PhD supervision focuses on Renaissance/Baroque art, art theory, and historiography. His advisory role extends to curatorial collaborations with institutions like the Royal Academy and Courtauld Gallery.
