Gerald Bloomfield is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Associate Research Professor of Global Health at Duke University, holding dual appointments in the Department of Medicine and Duke Global Health Institute (DGHI). He also serves as the Associate Director for Research at DGHI. Bloomfield specializes in cardiovascular global health, focusing on HIV-associated cardiometabolic complications and non-communicable diseases in resource-limited settings. His work spans Kenya, Pakistan, and the United States, emphasizing equitable healthcare access and clinical outcomes improvement.
He earned his MD and Master of Public Health (MPH) from Johns Hopkins University, followed by internal medicine residency and fellowship training in Cardiovascular Medicine at Duke. He completed the Duke Global Health Residency/Fellowship Pathway and a Fogarty International Clinical Research Fellowship, underscoring his commitment to global health research.
Bloomfield’s research integrates clinical trials, epidemiology, and implementation science. Key projects include the REPRIEVE trial assessing statin use in HIV-positive populations and interventions to improve hypertension management in Kenya.
