Roger Bedimo

Roger Bedimo is a Professor of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Chief of the Infectious Diseases Section at the VA North Texas Health Care System. He specializes in HIV/AIDS management, particularly in addressing non-HIV complications such as cardiovascular disease, bone mineral loss, and metabolic abnormalities. His research focuses on optimizing antiretroviral therapy, reducing HIV-related comorbidities, and improving outcomes for patients with HIV/HCV coinfections.

Dr. Bedimo’s work includes pioneering studies on cardiovascular risk in HIV patients, alcohol use disorder interventions, and telehealth initiatives to enhance HIV viral suppression. He actively contributes to professional organizations like the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the International AIDS Society.

His research spans clinical trials evaluating antiretroviral efficacy, biomarker analyses for immune activation, and public health strategies to address syndemics (co-occurring conditions like alcohol use and depression). Notable studies include the integrated stepped alcohol treatment trial and investigations into statin effects on HIV persistence.

Dr. Bedimo leads the Bedimo Lab at UT Southwestern, which explores simplified HIV therapies, immune-based interventions, and mechanisms of lipid abnormalities in HIV/HCV co-infection. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and serves on grant review panels for NIH-funded studies.
