Dr. Drechsler's research focuses on HIV immunopathogenesis and complications of chronic HIV disease, particularly the relationship between clinical outcomes during antiretroviral therapy, immune reconstitution, and metabolic changes in cholesterol metabolism with and without lipid-lowering therapy. His work integrates virological, immunological, and metabolic perspectives to improve long-term patient outcomes.
His publications demonstrate a sustained focus on HIV comorbidities, particularly cardiovascular and bone health implications of antiretroviral therapies. Recent work emphasizes metabolic consequences of lipid-lowering strategies and statin efficacy in HIV populations, while earlier research established foundations in viral co-infections and treatment toxicity profiles.
