Georges Hadziioannou

Georges Hadziioannou is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Bordeaux 1 since 2009, holding the Arkema/Aquitaine County Chair of Advanced Functional Materials for New Technologies of Information, Communication, and Energy. Previously, he held professorial and leadership positions at the University Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg), University of Groningen (Netherlands), and IBM Almaden Research Center.

Research Areas: His work focuses on semi-conducting polymers, nanostructured materials, polymer-based data storage, plastic electronics, and molecular electronics. He has pioneered methodologies in surface science, nanotribology, and scanning force microscopy with chemical sensitivity.

Management & Leadership: He directed the European Engineering School of Chemistry, Polymers and Materials (ECPM), led the Materials Science Center (now Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials), and served on editorial boards including ChemPhysChem.

Scientific Awards:

• 2007: Süe Award from the French Chemical Society

Contributions: Author of >300 publications (H-index 51), 18 patents, and co-founder of two start-ups: Polymer Service Center and Papyron. Supervised 39 PhD students and hosted >50 postdocs, with a career spanning academia, industry, and international collaboration.
