George Vosburgh is an Associate Teaching Professor and Director of the Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Music. He holds a Grammy Award for his 1985 recording with Chicago Pro Musica and is a laureate of the ARD Munich Competition. With over three decades of experience, he has served as Principal Trumpet in the Pittsburgh Symphony (1992–2017), World Orchestra for Peace (2003), and Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1979–1992). His roles include conductor, soloist, and educator.
Education highlights include early orchestral roles with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and collaborations with renowned artists like Pinchas Zukerman. His teaching spans masterclasses globally and private instruction at Carnegie Mellon, emphasizing repertoire and pedagogy. Notable initiatives include the Wind Ensemble Concerto Competition and recordings with Naxos. Under his direction, the Carnegie Mellon Wind Ensemble has premiered works by Nancy Galbraith and Percy Grainger.
Professional collaborations extend to orchestras like the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony and Rolandsek Festival Chamber Orchestra. His awards reflect his impact on classical music performance and education.
