Lenny Young is an Artist Lecturer in Solfège at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Music, where he also assists in running the Marta Sanchez Dalcroze Training Center. He holds BFA and MM degrees in Music Performance from Carnegie Mellon. His roles include teaching Eurhythmics, Music History, Theory, and Solfège at Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) High School, where he directs the new-music ensemble CAPA Antithesis.
Active in performance, Young has played oboe with the Pittsburgh, Wheeling, Youngstown, and other regional symphonies, as well as groups like the American Wind Symphony and Pittsburgh Festival Opera. He has conducted Third Presbyterian Church’s choir since 2005 and led improvisational groups, founding the Bell'Art Ensemble. As a soloist, he composed and performed original music for Point Park Repertory Company productions.
His work extends to chamber music through collaborations with Duquesne New Music Ensemble, Alia Musica Pittsburgh, and Kamratōn. He has contributed to productions with Resonance Works, Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theater, and Pennsylvania Dance Theater.
