Mark Snyder is the Director of the Jazz Orchestra at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Music. A CMU alumnus, he holds a Master’s in Composition and a BFA in Composition and Trombone Performance. With over 20 years of experience as a music educator in Pittsburgh Public Schools, he currently teaches music theory and directs ensembles at Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA). Additionally, he is an accomplished freelance musician with 35 years of professional experience, performing with prestigious ensembles such as the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and River City Brass Band. Notable collaborations include performances with artists like Ray Charles and John Denver.
His career spans teaching, ensemble direction, and active participation in the Pittsburgh music scene. Mark’s expertise bridges jazz performance, music education, and orchestral traditions, reflecting his dual commitment to academia and professional artistry.
